Byron Theater Renovations

The Byron Museum of History has committed to preserving the old theater building. The original sign has been restored and it is starting to look like 1950 again on Union Street.

Originally erected as the Byron Theater in 1948, this movie house showed films until 1963. By 1965 it was turned into an auto body garage and then the school bus depot until the local American Legion took it over in 1968. Since then, many a dance, wedding, and birthday have been celebrated in this venue. It is time to update the infrastructure of the 1970s.

Last summer the museum staff and volunteer’s focus was on the facades of 110 and 116 North Union Street, bringing back the mid-century modern style of the original theater and museum buildings. This summer, the two buildings will be physically connected by an indoor passageway.

The museum is asking for local support to finish work on the inside of the theater. Renovations to the 1948 interior will include all new plumbing, HVAC, electrical, lighting, and restrooms.

Donors of $500 or more will receive permanent recognition on the museum’s new Founders wall. Exhibit sponsorships and naming opportunities are also available. Your donations to the Byron Museum are always tax deductible.

The museum will host a grand reopening this autumn and several fundraisers over the winter. Reservations for rentals are being accepted for dates after November 17, 2018. Check availability when planning your next gathering.

Special thanks to those hard workers that have been helping with this project over the last year.
