Introducing Kira
by Jessica McCanse ~ August 6th, 2008. Filed under: Uncategorized.Greetings! My name is Kira and I was recently hired as the Museum’s Volunteer Coordinator. I just started working at the Museum one week before Quilt Show. All the quilts were beautiful and it was a great turn out. I meet a number of volunteers during the event and at the Volunteer Tea.
I am a Masters graduate of Northern Illinois University where I majored in anthropology and museum studies. I grew up in Woodstock, IL and spent my first two college years at McHenry Country College. Here I developed my passion for ancient history and anthropology. This interest took me to Knoxville, Tennessee where I continued to study anthropology, but also developed an interest in Ancient Greek history. After I graduated, I decided to pursue my education closer to home and began a Masters program at Northern Illinois University. My thesis research took me all the way to Sicily where I participated in an archaeological field school. I was really thrilled to learn about all the outhouse archaeology that has been done around Byron.
I am really excited to be a part of all the new improvements that will be going on at the museum in the next few weeks. There will be a number of projects especially for Between Fences and we could always use some extra help. If anyone is interested in volunteering or just stopping in to say hello please feel free to contact me at kira@byronmuseum.com or call the office at 815-231-5031.
